Nick Is My Man Of The Yearby Graham Westley Monday, July 6, 2009
EVERY Thursday, the Shortlist Magazine is out across the UK. In it, you can read all sorts of ordered lists. I thought I would copy the format for my BSP Summer Awards.
In reverse order, I nominate:
5. EBSFLEET UNITED for their courage and honesty in dealing with their finances this summer. No pretence, no hope-value wage payments, just good, solid, prudent management. Respect to all involved.
4. AFC WIMBLEDON for achieving back-to-back promotions and Terry Brown for leading that charge. Phenomenal!
3. HISTON for their dignity in allowing star players to move on – and for their resilience in getting on with the job of replacing them without a single excuse in sight.
2. GARY BRABIN for his openness with all in being interviewed for a bigger job – and his humility in not getting it just yet.
1. SALISBURY CITY, and in particular manager Nick Holmes. Nick contended with an incredibly difficult situation last year and led his team to a hugely creditable finish in the circumstances. A gentleman to talk to and a deserving winner.
I challenge readers to better my choices.
