MICHAEL GASH is ready to put a season of injury hell behind him and remind everyone of his capabilities with .

It's been a long 12 months for the 30-year-old striker after he injured his anterior cruciate ligament playing for against Accrington Stanley last August.

Ruled out for the whole campaign just two games in, Gash was forced to watch his Bees' team-mates in League Two from the sidelines.

“I haven't played a competitive game since last August,” Gash, who scored ten League Two goals the season before, told The . “I pretty much knew straightaway that I'd done something. I was in agony for 20 seconds and I thought, ‘It must be my ACL'. Then it died off for a bit so I hoped it might not be, but a scan confirmed it.

“It was tough. I liked to watch the lads play and hoped they did well, but when you're sitting on the sidelines you're wishing you were out there helping them to win games.”

His spell out also coincided with the departure of boss Martin Allen – who had signed the former , and Cambridge United striker, from during their Conference title-winning season – and he was let go in the summer.

A trial at where he played in their 6-1 pre-season friendly win at came to nothing as Steve Davis arrived as boss with his own ideas and players in mind.

Gash accepts that some clubs would have been nervous about how his knee will hold up, but he's convinced he'll be as strong as ever.

“My knee feels fine so hopefully I've got quite a few years left in me,” the Peterborough-based striker said. “I want to do well for King's Lynn to say thanks to them for taking a chance on me. I do understand it's a gamble as well because of the knee.

“If a club gives me a half-decent contract and then it goes again, that can be seen as a risk so I do understand the pressure managers come under from above. But I have to get on with it and King's Lynn is ideal for me. Hopefully I can benefit them and myself.”

If Gash can make a similar impact at King's Lynn as he did with the likes of Barnet and Kiddy, then boss Ian Culverhouse will have a real asset to call on in the South Premier this season.

The Linnets kick off at home to on Saturday – and Gash is raring to go.

“I've missed playing,” he said. “Even though I've played a couple of friendlies, there's nothing like a competitive game.

“I'm looking forward to the season starting and hopefully I can start well. I've been training a couple of times and they are a great bunch of lads. The manager's training sessions are unbelievable. I've only had two so far, but they've been some of the best I've ever had.

“The club want to try and get out of the league and push for something good this season. I've seen them play as well and they are all really good players. I think we'll be strong and hopefully I can help them and get some goals.

“That's the feeling I want again so hopefully it won't be too far away.”
