Worcester City manager Carl Heeley becomes latest director to quit

manager Carl Heeley has become the fourth director of the club to resign in the past week.

Heeley, who will remain as first team boss of the side, follows in the footsteps of Mike Davis, Rob Crean and Jem Pitt who all departed last week.

The trio, who joined the board to help create unity between the club and the Worcester City Supporters' Trust, said chairman Anthony Hampson and his fellow directors had “misled” them.

The Trust's hopes of turning the club, who will be groundsharing at next season, into a community benefits society were voted against at a meeting.

Some fans had called on Hampson to resign but he released a statement after Heeley's decision saying he has contacted the Trust, offering a way to “unify” the club.

Hampson said in a statement: “I have been advised by Carl that he wishes to tender his resignation from the board of directors of Worcester City Club Limited. Reluctantly I have accepted his decision and notified Companies House.

“We all know that Carl has a high profile job which he balances alongside the significant demands managing the first team.

“The negative reporting associated with the club is clearly having a very damaging effect, none more so than on Carl and the team. Despite the obvious differences we have at the moment I believe we all have a duty to give Carl our undivided support.

“I take my responsibilities as chairman seriously and I have today emailed the Supporters' Trust chairman and secretary offering what I believe to be a way forward to unify the club and allows it to move forward. It is my sincere hope that they give this offer serious consideration.”
