Gary Mills turns down Tranmere to become Wrexham’s new boss

has rejected the chance to move to Conference new-boys Tranmere Rovers in order to join .

The 53-year-old has left to take the Red Dragons post after they agreed to meet the £30,000 compensation fee required to prise him away from the north-east.

Mills met Tranmere owner Mark Palios yesterday and spoke at length after being identified as the Prenton Park outfit's number one target to lead their bid to regain League Two status at the first attempt after their relegation was confirmed on Saturday.

But with loose ends tied up on personal terms following his meeting with Wrexham chief executive Don Bircham last Wednesday, the ex-Nottingham Forest midfielder decided his future lay in trying to bring League back to north Wales in the club's eight season as a Conference club.

Mills, who led York to promotion to League Two after the same length of time away in 2012, will be introduced to the Racecourse at a Press conference at 6pm having penned a one-year rolling contract on the same terms he was on at the International Stadium.
