GOAL-SHY Southport have moved to increase their attacking options with the signing of experienced striker Andy Bishop.
Bishop, 32, joins from Vanarama National League rivals FC Halifax Town after just two months at the Shay. He had started the Shaymen's fixtures versus Torquay and Bromley and was a sub against Chester and Boreham Wood.
However, he has departed after Halifax accepted an offer from Southport to take the striker to Haig Avenue.
After starting his career at Walsall, Bishop made his name during spells at York City and Bury between 2004-13 before dropping into Non-League with Wrexham.
He was released by the Dragons at the end of last season after scoring 14 goals in 77 appearances over three seasons.
He was snapped up by Shaymen boss Neil Aspin but has now made the move to Southport, who have scored just once in their opening five games.
Port boss Paul Carden said: “Andy is exactly what I've been looking for, we talked in the summer and now after five matches Andy is with us.
“Andy adds a great deal to our squad in terms of playing ability and experience. He will hold the ball up, get others playing and he scores goals.
“We talked to FC Halifax through Neil Aspin and their chairman. This deal has taken all week so I am very pleased to have got it completed before the Bank Holiday fixtures.”
