Barrow move quickly to appoint Paul Cox

have moved quickly to appoint former Conference winning manager as their new boss on a three-and-a-half year deal.

The Bluebirds parted company with Darren Edmondson yesterday following their 3-1 defeat at on Saturday.

Former Eastwood Town boss Cox, 43, took Mansfield to the Conference Premier title in 2012-13 before leaving the Stags last November.

Ironically, Cox was famously given Mansfield chairman John 's Aston Martin car back in 2013 following an 8-1 thrashing of Barrow after earlier beating his new employers 7-0 in the same season.

He recently spent a brief spell in charge of troubled , leaving the Gulls in September after just three months at the club.

He inherits a Barrow side currently 16th in the following promotion from the Conference North last season.

“His record spanning a number of leagues, chairmen and budgets is consistent,” owner Paul Casson said.

“He wins at pretty much every level he's been at, he certainly won at this level before. Paul has taken a team on a journey that we want to take and hopefully he can replicate that.”

Barrow CEO, Austin Straker added: “After a few detailed and constructive meetings are pleased to announce that Paul Cox has agreed to be the new manager.

“Paul will meet the squad and support staff tomorrow,  guiding the training for the rest of the week leading up to our next home game against on Saturday.

“Cox has stated he is very excited by the challenge presented and is looking forward to building on the progress that has already been achieved at the club.”
