Torquay snap up Gibraltar keeper Jamie Robba and striker Jamie Reid

have signed Gibraltar international goalkeeper Jamie Robba while striker Jamie Reid has arrived on a three-month loan deal.

Robba, 24, was on trial with the Gulls last week and featured in the friendly match against Southern South & West outfit .

The Gibraltarian, who has seven caps for his country, spent last season with French fourth tier outfit US Le Pontet and did enough to convince Torquay manager to give him a deal.

He will compete with Brendan Moore for the number one jersey and Nicholson told BBC Sport: “He's done very well in training and he's a confident lad.

“He's the kind of character we want around the place and he's affordable, which is a big thing for us.”

Robba was in goal for five of Gibraltar's Euro 2016 qualifiers and conceded 26 times as the Rock struggled in their first campaign as UEFA members.

Despite the large number of goals let in, Nicholson believes his international experience will stand Robba in good stead.

“He doesn't let anything bother him too much and it's great experience for him, which for him as a young goalkeeper can only be a good thing,” he added.

“I'm sure he's got some decent stories about how good some of the players are that he's played against.”

Also arriving at Plainmoor is striker Reid, 22, who joins initially on a three-month loan from fellow Devon club Exeter City.

The former Northern Ireland U20 international, who played twice for Torquay in March 2015, had a spell with side last season and also played 17 times for Exeter, scoring once.

“I trained with Exeter when I got released from Torquay as a player in 2014 to keep myself fit and I had a couple of chats with him then and saw what he was about,” Nicholson added.

“I think he's going to compliment Nathan Blissett and Brett Williams and he's going to give them some genuine competition up there.”
