MARK CREIGHTON has been unveiled as Southport's new assistant manager just a day after leaving National League rivals Wrexham.
The former Red Dragons defender returned to north Wales at the start of July to work alongside manager Gary Mills and assistant Darren Caskey.
However, it was announced he had departed the Racecourse on Thursday after just over a month in the role.
Creighton wasn't out of football for long and was confirmed as assistant to Andy Bishop at Southport on Friday morning.
He will replace Craig Madden, who left Haig Avenue earlier this week following a difficult start to the season for the Sandgrounders.
Creighton, a former no-nonsense defender, played for Kidderminster, Oxford and Wrexham and helped the U's to promotion to the Football League in 2010. He also served as assistant manager at Kidderminster.
After leaving Wrexham on Thursday, the Birmingham-born man told the club's website: “Things happen quickly in football and another door might well be opening for me.
“I've loved working with both Gary Mills and Darren Caskey, they're great guys who are desperate to do well for Wrexham and see the club back into the Football League.
“It's been a great experience working with them and the players, and I hope I have contributed, even though my most recent spell at the Racecourse has been brief.
“I'd like to wish the staff, players and directors all the best for the future – but can I say a special thank you to the Wrexham fans, who have never failed to support me. I really do hope this club moves back up as soon as possible.”
