Wanted winger Dan Wishart to remain with Sutton United

SUTTON UNITED manager Paul Doswell has confirmed wanted winger Dan Wishart will not be leaving the club on transfer deadline day as he recovers from a hamstring injury.

The left-sided player, signed from Hayes & Yeading half way through the 2014-15 season, was named in the South team of the year last term as Sutton claimed the league title.

The international has made just four appearances since promotion, however, after picking up an injury in the recent game against Torquay.

Sutton received an offer from a League club earlier this month and while Doswell accepts Wishart's future lies away from Gander Green Lane, he is happy to have his prized asset around for a little while longer.

Doswell told the club's website: ”Dan's had a huge amount of interest in him from Football League clubs, but the recent minor hamstring injury he sustained against Torquay has meant that we've been unable to conclude any permanent transfer.

“Dan will be available for the game at next Saturday, and I'm sure he will push on and join a really good League club in the future.

“In my opinion he will be a great asset to any League club, but for now he is our asset and I know Dan can't wait to get back playing and helping the team.”

Wishart added: ”It's nice to be linked, and I want to play at the highest level possible, but I love playing here. I signed a new two-year contract in the summer, and the team spirit and closeness of the group makes it a fantastic place to come in to work.

“I need to keep working hard to improve, and we will see where that takes me. The gaffer has been brilliant with me, keeping me fully updated, and it's humbling to know how much everyone at the football club is trying to help in my progression.”
