BRAINTREE TOWN goalkeeper Jamie Butler has left the National League club after just over two months and six games.
The 24-year-old joined the Iron from National League South side Hemel Hempstead Town for an undisclosed fee in June following an impressive season with the Tudors that led to him receiving an England C call.
He hit the headlines after scoring a bizarre goal from inside his own area against league champions Sutton United and clearly did enough to impress new Braintree boss Day.
After clinching Butler's signature, the manager said: “I've long been impressed with Jamie and he has done really well over the last couple of years. Stepping up to the National League level will be a great opportunity for him. He'll be an important part of the spine of our side.”
However, Butler has had his contract cancelled by mutual consent after he made just six appearances for the club in the National League.
He started the season as Braintree's number one and kept two clean sheets before being dropped for Saturday's goalless draw at Guiseley in favour of new signing Sam Beasant.
A Braintree statement read: “Braintree Town manager Jamie Day has agreed with goalkeeper Jamie Butler for his contract with the club to be terminated and for him to move on to another club.
“Jamie Butler made six first team appearances and kept two clean sheets during his time with the Iron. All at the IronmongeryDirect Stadium wish him well for the future.”
