JAMIE DAY won't be joining the early season sacking circus – despite last year's play-off semi-finalists Braintree currently residing in the bottom four.
The Iron finished above the dotted line last term, but this time around they have been sat below the one they all dread.
Day, who replaced Lincoln City-bound Danny Cowley at Cressing Road in the summer, has had a tough time of it already and has had to admit defeat with one of his new signings, releasing goalkeeper Jamie Butler last week having brought Sam Beasant to the club instead.
Sacking season has started early in the National League. Eastleigh gave Chris Todd the elbow after four games with Guiseley making a change – Mark Bower told his services were no longer required.
Southport chairman Charlie Clapham has gone through yet another new manager with Andy Bishop fired last Saturday and rumours are that Day could be next in line for the chop.
But Braintree chairman Lee Harding says those looking to make some money in the sack race bets shouldn't be placing wagers on the former Welling and Ebbsfleet United manager.
He said: “We're happy enough with the progress we're making. It's been difficult for Jamie, he's had to bring in 15 new players in with a squad of 18.
“He's had to make some decisions and I agree with what he's done so far. Jamie works hard and hopefully it will be a matter of time before we start to climb the table.
“The club has achieved a lot over the past few years but we've not had much luck this season. If you give remits, you have to stick to them, you can't change your mind after a few weeks. If things haven't improved by Christmas then maybe we'll have to assess things but we're certainly not going to start panicking yet.”
Butler left the club despite his signing from Hemel Hempstead 72 days before. Beasant played against Guiseley in the 0-0 draw last week and Harding said: “You have to trust your manager with these things.
“I've been impressed by Jamie since he came in, but I'm not the manager of Braintree Town!
“We've had arguably our two main strikers Jack Midson and Michael Cheek out injured and let's remember this is pretty much a new team working with a new manager in a new system. It will take time.”
