Jamie Day departs Braintree Town after just four months in charge

JAMIE DAY has departed strugglers after just four months in charge following a difficult start to the season.

Ex-Welling United and Ebbsfleet boss Day replaced Danny Cowley at Cressing Road in the summer following the former manager's move to league rivals Lincoln City.

The 37-year-old had to rebuild the squad following Cowley's departure and his new look side have failed to hit their stride just yet.

The Iron have won just two of their opening 12 National League games and the club's board of directors decided to move on from Day after a meeting on Saturday night following the home defeat to Forest Green Rovers.

Chairman Lee Harding said: “It's a real shame for both the club and Jamie, because he's given the job everything he can.

“Over the past few months we've spoken almost daily and I know how hard Jamie has worked to bring in players to make us competitive. But we're all in the results business and the league table does not lie.

“The view of the board was that change now allows sufficient time for fresh ideas and a fresh approach to turn our season around. We intend to move quickly and hope to have a new manager in place as soon as possible.”
