Braintree Town appoint ex-Grays boss Hakan Hayrettin as their new manager

strugglers have appointed ex-Waltham Forest, Thurrock and Grays boss Hakan Hayrettin in hope of turning their season around.

The Iron parted company with Jamie Day at the weekend, ending his brief four-month reign following the home defeat to Forest Green Rovers.

Day was left to rebuild the squad at Cressing Road following Danny Cowley's move to league rivals Lincoln City and the new look side have started the season slowly.

Saturday's defeat left the Iron third from bottom and with just two wins from their opening 12 games, prompting the Braintree board to take action.

They've moved quickly to replace Day, bringing in Hayrettin whose most recent job was part of 's management team at Luton Town.

Well known in the Essex scene, the former Thurrock and boss moved to Kenwilworth Road as first team coach in the summer of 2013 after guiding Grays to the Ryman North title.

While at Luton, the club won promotion back to the League in 2014 and established themselves in League Two before Harettin left alongside Still in December of last year.

Hayrettin has taken over ahead of trip to Lincoln on Saturday and he said: “I won't promise miracles, but we'll all be working very hard to turn our fortunes around and that started tonight (Tuesday). As I said to the lads earlier: Let's go to work!”
