Ex-Eastleigh boss Chris Todd training with former club Torquay United

FORMER boss Chris Todd could be set for a return to playing after joining in with training at side .

Todd, a former Torquay player, was part of the Gulls squad that won promotion through the Conference play-offs in 2009.

Current United boss was also part of that team and Todd joined in with his former club's training session on Wednesday.

The 35-year-old defender has been out of since leaving his job as Eastleigh manager just four games into the season.

And he has decided to return to the training pitch to build up some fitness while he searches for his next challenge in football.

“I know Nicho very well and just asked him if I could come in and keep on top of things and join in with training,” Todd told Torquay's website.

“It was good of him to say yes and it was nice to get a bit of a run out. The boys are looking really sharp and even though I've only been out of the game for four weeks, it was nice to be out on the training pitch again.

“I was as surprised as anybody to leave my job at Eastleigh and now I'm just waiting for a new opportunity. I feel like I left Eastleigh in a good place and things are looking up for them.”

Nicholson added: “Chris has asked to train with us, and I am pleased to have him along. We haven't talked about anything other than training at the moment, but at the very least he will be a good influence on the lads.”

Having seen the Gulls squad up close, Todd expects the club to climb the National League table after three defeats in a row saw them drop to 16th.

“Nicho is a top guy and I believe he's destined for good things,” he added. “Us young managers need time to improve and I think he's improved the squad here at Torquay. They'll come good and they'll start winning games.”
