SOLIHULL MOORS boss Marcus Bignot reckons staying in the National League this season would surpass their championship winning campaign.
The Moors strolled to the National League North title last season, earning a place in Non-League's top tier for the first time in the club's history.
Despite having a busier summer recruitment wise than anticipated, the West Midlands club have started the season positively.
They have picked up 19 points from their first 15 games to leave them nine points above the relegation zone and that's exactly where Bignot wants to stay.
“We're on track,” the 42-year-old told the BBC. “If we manage to stay up it will be a bigger achievement than last season.
“I didn't tell the players, but I wanted 20 points from the first 15 games and we've got 19. I love going up against these full-time and ex-League teams, it challenges me as a manager.”
Bignot has helped transform the club from Step 2 relegation fodder to champions and recently revealed he has been working without a contract at Damson Park since taking over in the summer of 2011.
With the Moors looking to improve their operations off the pitch, Bignot has asked for a deal and expects talks with the club's board to be wrapped up soon.
“The club's changing and it has to meet the needs of a professional set-up – we're not far off,” the boss added.
“We're giving players contracts and it comes to a stage now where I have to commit. I'm delighted they want to sit down and talk and see where that goes.”
