SOUTHPORT boss Steve Burr has brought in his former captain Keith Briggs to be the new assistant manager at Haig Avenue.
Briggs was skipper of Burr's sides at Stalybridge Celtic and Kidderminster Harriers and the two have teamed up once again in the National League.
The 34-year-old former midfielder has managerial experience of his own having taken charge of Stalybridge for 18 months followed by a short spell at New Mills.
Briggs has replaced Mark Creighton as Burr's number two. Creighton, the former Kidderminster assistant and Wrexham coach had been brought to Southport as assistant to Andy Bishop just before the manager's sacking.
A club statement read: “Steve Burr has brought in Keith Briggs, his former captain at Stalybridge Celtic and Kidderminster Harriers as his new assistant manager.
“Briggs was involved in his first training session alongside Burr on Tuesday morning as the Port players prepare for Saturday's FA Cup tie against Chester at the Merseyrail Community Stadium.
