SOUTHPORT boss Steve Burr says “there are a lot of issues” at the club as the Sandgrounders continue to struggle at the foot of the National League.
Experienced manager Burr, 56, was appointed last month to replace rookie Andy Bishop, who had left the club after just one win in eight games to start the season.
Southport have won just once since Burr's arrival – a 1-0 success at promoted North Ferriby United – and Saturday's defeat at Guiseley saw Port fall to the bottom of the table.
The Sandgrounders face Burr's old club Chester in the FA Cup on Saturday before returning to league action with two home games against Sutton United and York City.
And Burr understands that the club need to turn things around and quickly if they are to avoid any late season drama.
“We need to wins games and however we do that doesn't matter, we just need to win,” Burr, who brought in Keith Briggs as his assistant this week, told the Southport Visiter.
“There are lots of things wrong. I've got to address them. I want to be the person to turn things around here. I knew it was a tough job when I came here but there are lots of issues to take care of, on and off the pitch.
“I've had a good look at things now and it's time I start stamping some authority so this football club can get back to winning matches and move away from the bottom of the table.
“We're not winning and the sooner we get winning the better. It'll be a long week but we'll prepare for Chester.”
Burr is continuing to look for ways to improve the squad at Haig Avenue but stresses that it will be difficult.
The club have used up their loan options so the boss will be forced to scour the free agent market to bolster his ranks.
“At this stage of the season, we've used up all our loan options so the only thing left to look for are free agents,” he added.
“The ones that are still available now are players nobody wants. We'll keep looking to improve the team though and hopefully get a result on Saturday.”
