CHESTER are searching for a new assistant manager after Ian Sharps left to become first team coach at League One outfit Walsall.
The experienced former defender, 36, hung up his boots at the end of last season and was appointed Jon McCarthy's assistant in the summer.
The Blues have enjoyed a promising start to the season and sit 12th in the National League after Saturday's 2-2 draw at rivals Tranmere Rovers.
However, they are now looking for a new right-hand man for McCarthy after Sharps opted to accept an offer from Walsall.
Sharps has been appointed first team coach at the Saddlers, replacing Dean Holden who left for Bristol City last week.
It's a blow for the Blues but the former Tranmere, Rotherham, Shrewsbury Town, Burton Albion and AFC Telford United man says he expects Chester to continue their great form.
Sharps told the club's website: “”I've had a great time at Chester and I'd like to thank the staff and fans for the opportunity.
“The chance to join a club at a higher level is one I could not turn down but Chester is a great club which is in a really good place at the moment – Jon and the players will work their socks off to deliver success and I wish them and the club well.
“I'll keep an eye on results and maintain friendships at the club and simply want to thank everyone for the support they showed during my time there, I leave with a heavy heart but these chances simply don't come around every day.”
