Sutton United sign experienced striker Matt Tubbs

SUTTON UNITED boss Paul Doswell reckons the addition of experienced striker Matt Tubbs is a “superb signing” for the club.

The 32-year-old had scored two goals in 12 appearances since joining Forest Green Rovers in the summer after cancelling his contract at League Two outfit Portsmouth.

However, he found first team opportunities hard to come by in recent weeks and with the addition of striker Shamir Mullings, Tubbs has moved on.

The frontman scored five goals in 17 appearances last season for League Two Pompey but he is still trying to rediscover the form that made him one of the most feared strikers in .

He has plenty of experience in the lower leagues, making his name at City, scoring over 100 goals for the Whites before spells with , Crawley, Rotherham and Wimbledon.

Tubbs scored three times in six games during a loan stint at earlier this season and now joins their league rivals Sutton on a permanent deal.

Boss Doswell said: ”This is a superb signing for the club. Matt has a proven goalscoring record at this level and I've been interested in signing him for a while. The fact that he's eligible for the is a real bonus and he'll go straight in to the squad for the weekend.”

Tubbs added: ”I've heard a lot of good things about the club from Charlie Clough and recently from Ben Jefford, and as soon as I knew Paul was interested it was a move I wanted to make.”
