Get the Most Out of Your Game

THERE is nothing like being able to support your local team, or teams, should you find yourself so lucky. But are you getting the most out of your game? Even if you have to travel to your favorite team event for an away game, make sure you optimize your experience. There are some key points to keep in mind when it comes to your Non-League season.

Fixtures

When you are planning your event day, make sure you know where you're going and what time kick-off is. Depending on the elements, these things may change. Stay on top of your game and you will avoid frustration. Show up at the right grounds at the right time. And come prepared!

Football fare

The adrenaline rush and excitement of the game can often spark a thirst matched by nothing else. Go ahead and enjoy that beer! You will found most grounds serve at least one ale you'll find satisfying, at worst. A growing number of football clubs are becoming known for the popular craft beers they offer. As for food, well, you are apt to run into the norm…burgers, chips, dogs, etc. Do not come for the food, but if you can't wait, you'll do all right, mostly. If you are able to hold off, you may well find food and fun in one of the nearby pubs, post-game.

To the pub!

One of the most attractive qualities of Non-League games is their proximity in the community. Club grounds are central, and often just a hop-skip-and a jump from, locals' favorite pubs. If it is a locals' favorite, you can rest assured the beer is good and the food even better. Not to mention, the crowd is generally familiar and fun…with each other, anyway. Getting chummy with one pub-goer can open up a host of possibilities for an afternoon of camaraderie.

The derby match

Get a feel for where you are if you are not from the area. Derby match rivalry can put you in the wrong place. If you have traveled to a derby match, you have to know that rivaling teams are probably close in proximity. If you have a tendency to get lippy after a few pints, make sure you are in like company before you put down stakes for the evening.

What Else?

Non-League Day

Non-League Day is a great way to connect with fellow Non-Leaguers. Taking place during the international break, it's a day to get excited about the Non-Leagues, and your team(s) in particular. Your favorite football clubs will be celebrating, too, and usually have team paraphernalia available. Take advantage of the day and show your team support!

What are the odds?

Sometimes the friendly bet or pub challenge creates added excitement when you really feel invested in your team. You have options, but before you bet the house, know your odds.  Believing in your team is great but make sure you align expectations with knowledge so you aren't surprised in the end.

Women's football

Not just a man's game, women's football has a Non-League of their own. Non-League's popularity has given the ladies an opportunity to shine outside of the BIG league, as it has for men. It is much easier to find information on women's matches these days, so the possibilities are endless.

That's a Wrap!

As you can see, there is no end to enjoying the Non-Leagues. It is the grass-roots of football. You have access to the fixtures, the odds, the grounds. You can support men and women, both. You have pubs next to clubs that allow for fellow team support, before and after the games. And who knows…your favourite Non-League player may decide to show up for a pint after the game, as well! Cheers!
