Points Not Goals Are What’s Important, Says Grimsby Boss Paul Hurst

By Liam Morgan

GRIMSBY TOWN boss Paul Hurst says he doesn't feel the need for his side to play the role of entertainers on the road ahead of the match at relegation-threatened tonight.

The Mariners have won their last four games away from home by virtue of a 1-0 scoreline – a key sign of how Hurst is setting up his team on their travels.

However, he is happy as long as they can continue that impressive trend with another vital three points in their pursuit of a play-off place at Princes Park, as they look to stretch their unbeaten run to five matches.

He said: “I'd prefer us to score more goals away, of course I would, but as long as we keep winning that is the main thing for me.

“Somebody said to me last week it's becoming ‘1-0 to the Mariners' and that doesn't bother me in the slightest.

“I've got to give a lot of credit to the lads for how we've been playing away from home – we're keeping clean sheets and winning games and I can't ask for more than that.

“We know it won't be an easy game tonight though. We've got to make sure we apply ourselves and be up for the fight that I'm sure Dartford will be.

“A win would certainly move everything closer for us but we'll need to be ready and prepared to go the extra yard to get the result we want.”

The clash this evening is vital for both sides and it could spell the beginning of the end for Dartford, who face Grimsby tonight before another tough encounter at home to Forest Green Rovers on Saturday.

The Darts go into the encounter with the Mariners still four points adrift of safety, and if they fall to consecutive defeats, relegation back to the Skrill South will inch ever closer.
