TAMWORTH boss Dale Belford admits relegation has hit him hard – but he is hoping he is given the chance to rebuild the side as they prepare for life in the Skrill North.
The Lambs 2-0 defeat to Southport on Saturday sealed their fate and they now look set to return to being a part-time team.
Only a miracle would have saved Tamworth from the drop and Belford blamed individual errors for their league position.
He said: “We were punished for the first mistake we made on Saturday and that has been a problem for us all season. That's why we are where we are.
“Relegation isn't something I've experienced before and it's not a nice feeling. We're all devastated by what has happened.
“We can look at a lot of reasons but ultimately I am the manager and I take responsibility.
“Some of the lads, particularly the younger ones, have been great recently. They've never chucked in the towel; they've given me everything and it's sad that they have no reward to show for it.”
For now, attention must turn to the future for the Lambs, and Belford hopes he can be an integral part of attempting to get the club back in the Skrill Premier.
“I love this club and want the chance to be leading what is a massive rebuilding job,” he said.
“The hard work needs to start as soon as possible but we know it can take time. Gary Mills was given time and it worked.
“Stability is the key and hopefully I'll be involved in the process.”
There is however light at the end of a dark tunnel for Tamworth, who reached the final of the Birmingham Senior Cup with a 5-2 win over Hednesford.
Their reward is a trip to the Hawthorns where they will meet Premier League side West Bromwich Albion.
