Alan Turvey becomes president of Basingstoke Town

FORMER Ryman League chairman Alan Turvey has accepted an invitation to become president of South side .

Turvey has been involved with for over 60 years as a linesman, referee and then in administration with the which began in 1978.

From fixtures secretary for Division Two to general secretary and the chairman just four years later in 1982, Turvey enjoyed a rapid rise to the chairman's seat he held for 33 years.

Turvey is also an Honorary Member of The and a Life Vice President of the Hampshire Football Association and will now link up with the Dragons.

Turvey said: “I have always followed Basingstoke's results and always enjoy attending their games, and the friendly and family atmosphere that exists.

“I hope I can offer, experience, from my footballing and commercial background to good use alongside some very hard working people at the club.”

Chairman Rafi Razzak added: ““We have been discussing the role of President with Alan for a few weeks and are delighted he has accepted.

“He brings not only a wealth of football administration experience, but is well known and respected throughout the local area.”

    Pleased to read that my old training partner Alan Turvey, is going strong. It’s been a few years now since we ran up all those stepn on the Southendt United South bank. ( now no more )My best wishes to you and Basingsttoke FC
