Hampton & Richmond star Jamal Lowe celebrates England C call-up with Pompey move

JAMAL LOWE has probably had worse weeks. After scoring two goals last Saturday, the Borough attacker received his first ever England call-up – and then on Friday clinched a move to League big boys Portsmouth!

The 18-goal hitman will move to Fratton Park in January after an explosive 12 months that saw him help first the Beavers to the Ryman Premier title, and then himself to a professional deal.

It's a story of a great comeback – released by two seasons ago, he was then told he was surplus to requirements at and Hemel Hempstead during a difficult 2015.

Comeback

But after finding his form under Alan Dowson in the South, the one-time reject is now reaching for the stars.

The talented 22-year-old teamed up with the squad for their three-day training camp in Warwick ahead of the Three Lions' trip to Estonia in the ITC on November 15.

Lowe, who will officially become a Pompey player on January 1 after an undisclosed deal was agreed, told : “It's been an incredible couple of days for me. I'm buzzing still – it's certainly been a week I'll remember for the rest of my life.

“It goes without saying what a huge club Portsmouth are. They get over 16,000 every week and are looking for promotion from League Two.

“It capped a brilliant week for me after getting my England call-up. It's such an honour, I have wanted to get into the squad ever since I was a teenager and I have finally been able to. I can't wait to meet the team now, train and hopefully get onto the pitch.

“I couldn't have done this without the help of Dowse and our coaches Martin Tyler and Ian Dyer. The whole team have been fantastic to me and the support I have had will really push me on.”

Focused

Lowe – who created his own cheeky twitter hashtag #GoalsLikeJamz – added: “I'm not eligible to play for Pompey until the New Year, so I'll be working as hard as I can for Hampton and scoring as often as possible to get ready for the step up.”

Hampton chairman Steve McPherson says there is more to come from his club's players in the years ahead.

“I truly believe that Jamal will not be the last player within this current squad who will make the move into the professional game,” he said.

“We now have a few months to see him continue his exceptional season to date as a Hampton player before saying our farewells and enjoy watching his progress.”
