Chelmsford City have everything in place to be a National League club, says new signing Scott Davies

SCOTT DAVIES chose because the club have a realistic shot at earning promotion next season.

The former Crawley Town and Aldershot midfielder will turn 30 in March – and by that time he wants to be in a position to get a medal around his neck.

In his column for , Davies wrote about the challenges facing players to fix themselves up with clubs in the close season.

But it seems Davies ultimately had little difficulty as the beaten South play-off finalists announced their capture.

“At 29, I'm not getting any younger,” Davies said. “I want to try and really achieve something in the time I have left, and it felt as though under Rod Stringer's leadership this was the place for me to be.”

This deal, Davies revealed, has been a long time coming.

“I'd spoken to Rod over the past 18 months but we just couldn't get anything done that would fit around my work,” he said.

“At this level it's difficult, but now I've managed to complete my degree I'm at a different stage in my life where it gives me more freedom to apply more attention to my yet again. I'll give my all each time I play and try to create as much as I can going forward to provide opportunities for the front players.

“That's me to a tee really! But I'm excited to get started and feel very fortunate to be joining a club who have everything in place to go to the next level.”

Chelmsford, meanwhile, have released a statement to supporters revealing the latest developments on the club's on-off takeover issues.

City announced at the end of last season that their takeover by the Jade Group – effectively announced in the summer of 2016 – had in fact not gone through.

“Peter Webb, Paul Hopkins, Mansell Wallace and the board of directors met with John Holmes and Steve Shore, the Managing Director of Betsi Limited, on Tuesday to discuss how things are progressing with the latter's proposed involvement with the club,” read Thursday's statement.

“Matters are progressing although there is still a lot of work needed before the new structure can be put in place and all parties remain committed to delivering a positive outcome.

“As well as a development strategy various items to current operational matters were also discussed.

“Rod Stringer remains fully onside and is pushing on with the important task of searching out new signings to add to the players from last season who will be retained.”
