Cray Wanderers nearing return home after 44 years of exile

can finally start planning for a return home following 44 years of exile after plans to build a new stadium in Chislehurst were approved.

The Ryman North club, who travel to in the play-off semi-finals on Wednesday, have been playing at 's Hayes Lane since 1998.

The Wands, London's oldest club, have been homeless since 1972 but a return now looks on the cards after Bromley Council's planning committee voted in favour of plans to build on Flamingo Park, Chislehurst.

The decision will now be referred to the London Mayor and Secretary of State who will have the final say before the multi-purpose stadium and community hub can be built, with the club hopeful of moving in time for the 2018-19 season.

Cray Wanderers chairman Gary Hillman said: “I want to thank Bromley's planning committee for appreciating the community benefits and genuine common sense of our scheme to finally provide Cray Wanderers FC with a home.

“I would equally thank the incredible support from fans and Bromley residents to make our dream a reality.”
