AMBITIOUS Billericay Town have secured two big signings, bringing back defender Rob Swaine and forward Isaac Layne.

Swaine is no stranger to the Blues having enjoyed a successful spell with the club from 2011-13, helping the club to the Ryman Premier title in 2011-12.

He left in 2013 to join and captained the Ravens' 2014-15 Conference South winning team before leaving on Tuesday after asking to have his contract cancelled.

Swaine wasn't without a club for long, however, with Billericay – now owned and financially backed by Glenn Tamplin – announcing his return on Wednesday morning.

The defender tweeted: “Delighted to sign for Billericay Town. Amazing ambition being shown which I'm excited to be a part of, oh and no M25. Once a Blue, always a Blue.”

The Blues, currently 11 points adrift of the play-off places, have also welcomed back exciting striker Layne from Scottish side Alloa Athletic.

Layne left Billericay to sign for Southend in August 2014 after impressing for the Blues but he is now back following a spell north of the border.

Boss Craig Edwards said: “I am delighted to announce that we have signed Isaac Layne on a contract. Isaac contacted me in the week saying that he wanted to come home and would we be interested. It took me a second to say ‘all day long' I rang Glenn to ask him and once again he backed me.

“Isaac was with us as an 18-year-old and scoring for fun. He attracted several big professional clubs and we came close to agreeing a deal with Championship side Reading. However he signed for Southend before moving to the Scottish Premiership with Alloa Athletic playing against the likes of Celtic.”
