CAMBRIDGE CITY have agreed to continue their groundshare at St Ives Town but say they are still committed to bringing the club back home.
Since leaving their Milton Road ground in the summer of 2013, City have shared with Histon and will now enter their third season playing at St Ives' Westwood Road.
Cambridge's proposed plans to move into a new 3,000 capacity stadium in Sawston, pictured above, were dealt a blow last month.
The Court of Appeal ruled in favour of local resident Karen Oakley, saying South Cambridgeshire District Council had not given “sufficient” reasons for granting the planning permission.
While the club wait for further news on their potential new home, they have secured a ground for next season ahead of the March 31 deadline.
City could well kick off next season in St Ives at Step 4 with the struggling side currently second bottom of the Southern Premier and seven points adrift of safety.
Chairman Kevin Satchell, who has agreed a one-year deal with an optional extension, said: “Everyone at St Ives has been very good to us over the last two years and we have an excellent relationship with them. I am delighted that this will continue for next season.
“That said, I do understand the difficulties some of our fans have getting to our home games. However, St Ives is currently the only viable option open to us so we will remain at Westwood Road whilst we continue in our quest to relocate to a permanent home.”
On the Sawston project, he added: “I know that the whole situation is very frustrating for everyone connected with the club.
“However, I want to re-assure our supporters that we are working hard behind the scenes to move forward with the project and get it back on track as we all want Cambridge City playing in their own stadium sooner rather than later”.
