By Matthew Mundy

MARK STARMER has been succeeded as manager by his former assistant Andy Peaks.

Peaks, who had been in temporary charge since Starmer resigned back in March, was announced as the new man in the Diamonds hot seat on Friday morning.

Peaks oversaw three wins against , and with only one defeat coming against Premier Division champions .

And upon his announcement as boss, Peaks said he was thrilled at being given the chance to lead the team next season and take the club forward.

He said: “Obviously I am delighted to be given the role on a permanent basis. I haven't made any secret of the fact I wanted the job and I understand the process the club has had to go through in the last few weeks. I have just got my head down and got on with trying to win matches.

“I will be looking at my backroom staff and the players I feel we need to continue to work from this season.”

Chairman Ralph Burditt commented on the process the club undertook and explained he's confident he's found the right man.

“After interviewing a number of people, the board felt Andy was the strongest candidate for the role,” he said.

“Anyone who knows Andy will know that he is Diamonds through and through and in appointing him as manager, we know that we have appointed someone who cares as passionately about the club's success on and off the field as we do.”
