Stockport Sports booted out of North West Counties League

STOCKPORT SPORTS have been expelled from the after an extraordinary general meeting on Monday night.

The Saxons, formerly known as Woodley Sports, failed to fulfil three fixtures and were subsequently suspended from the league last month.

The club also owe a considerable amount of money through way of fines to the North West Counties League and they have been kicked out of the competition after weeks of speculation.

Member clubs voted in favour of Sports, who returned to the NWCL from the in 2012 after failing their ground grading, to be removed.

A NWCL statement said: “Stockport Sports have been expelled from the North West Counties League, following a vote by member clubs at an extraordinary general meeting this evening (Monday).

“The meeting was arranged after the club breached several league rules, including failing to fulfil fixtures on three separate occasions, and failing to comply with management committee instructions regarding confirmed notification of venues for their remaining home fixtures.

“The playing record of Stockport Sports for season 2014-15 will now be expunged, and all league tables, statistics and records will be adjusted accordingly.”
