FORMER FA Vase winner Kieran Wrightson is celebrating the best victory of his life after he was given the all-clear from cancer.
The 25-year-old was part of the North Shields team that beat Glossop North End in the 2015 Vase final, coming on as a substitute in extra time to help his side over the line at Wembley.
He has since played for Jarrow Roofing and Newcastle Benfield but his life was turned upside down last year when he was diagnosed with testicular cancer.
Wrightson had an operation to remove the tumour but was told months later that the cancer had spread to his stomach, forcing him into more chemotherapy and another operation in February.
The former Newcastle United youngster has now been given the all-clear and apart from monthly check-ups, will not require any future treatment.
Wrightson revealed the brilliant news on Twitter and a number of players and clubs from the North East got in touch to celebrate the news.
The midfielder told Chronicle Live: “It is a massive relief and a huge weight off the shoulders of me and the family. I was by myself when I read the letter and I didn't know what to do. I called my partner and she was crying.
“Then I told my mam and dad. Everyone got wind of it and my phone hasn't stopped with people wishing me congratulations. It's been really nice.
“There's no more treatment and no more hospital. I only have to go back for monthly check-ups. Life can now get back to normal.”
