Alfreton Town have moved to strengthen their back line with the signing of defender Dominic Smith on a month’s loan deal National League North rivals from AFC Telford United.
The 22-year-old brings a degree of versatility to Billy Heath’s squad as he can play at both centre back and right back if required.
Smith came through the youth system at Shrewsbury Town and signed his first professional contract in February 2014.
A loan spell at Tamworth followed in the 2014/15 season before further loan spells came at Barrow in 2016 and Southport in 2017. The highly rated defender has also represented Wales at Under 19 and Under 21 level.
After Smith’s contract with Shrewsbury was cancelled by mutual consent in March 2018 he signed for AFC Telford on a short term basis before putting pen to paper on a one year deal in the summer.
