Weymouth add vital Step 2 experience to squad

Weymouth have made a big statement on intent as they prepare for their first season back at Step 2 level with the signing of midfielder Andy Robinson from Havant and Waterlooville.

The 26-year-old came through the youth ranks at Premier League club Southampton, where he spent time as captain of the Saints’ youth side, before moving on to Bolton Wanderers in 2014.

The Bournmouth born man then dipped into Non-League, spending time with Dorchester Town and Gosport Borough.

A move to Havant & Waterlooville followed in 2016 and Robinson was a regular in the Hawks’ first team squad last season as they ultimately unsuccessfully battled to retain their National League status.

The Hawks ended up finishing in 23rd position in the National League table, a distant 12 points adrift of safety, just 12 months after they dramatically sealed promotion to Step 1 on the final day of the season.

Nevertheless, the midfielder’s impressive performances saw him named Player of the Year at the club’s end of season awards.

Robinson will now come up against his former club in the National League South next season after the Weymouth romped to promotion from Step 3 this year under the guidance of manager Mark Molesley.
