Joint boss Lee Picton reckons South Shields have landed a coup in striker Jason Gilchrist.
The 24-year-old was the National League North’s top scorer when playing for Southport in the 2017-18 season, when he netted 26 times.
And last season he helped Stockport County to the league title after enjoying a positive temporary spell at Edgely Park.
Now, the former Manchester City and Burnley trainee has committed his future to the ambitious Evo-Stik Northern Premier League Mariners, and Picton is delighted to welcome his aboard.
“Jason is someone we have tracked for a while and he has a proven goalscoring record at this level and higher,” he said of the former Droylsden, Accrington Stanley, Chester and FC United striker.
“We feel he is a great fit for what we are looking for moving forwards at the club.
“We’re really confident he will suit our style of play, and have been very impressed with him as a person during the conversations we have had with him.”
