Chesterfield hand out number nine shirt

Chesterfield have handed out their number nine shirt to new signing, striker Anthony Spyrou.

The teenager has been given the prized jersey after singing for the Spireites on a season long loan deal today from newly promoted Premier League Club Norwich City.

The 19-year-old has been recruited after training with the club and turning out in recent pre-season friendlies at Hallam FC and Matlock Town.

After agreeing the switch from Carrow Road, Chesterfield’s new number nine said: “I’m delighted and I can’t wait to get started. I’ve heard a lot of good things about the club and I feel I can make a contribution.”

The highly rated young striker enjoyed a brief experience of Non-League football towards the end of last season when he made three first team appearances for Wrexham.
Sprou was in fine form for Norwich’s Under 23 side last season, finding the net 10 times in 21 matches for the Canaries but has not been involved with the Development Squad during this pre-season as the Carrow Road hierarchy look to continue their strategy of loaning out their best young talent.
After a challenging first season at Non League level, Chesterfield ended up finishing up in 14th place in the National League. However, under manager John Sheridan hopes are high that the Spireites could enjoy a far better campaign next year.
