Double winner Craig Denton steps down at Worksop

Double-winning boss Craig Denton has stepped down at Northern Premier League Worksop Town.

Tigers officials confirmed Denton’s resignation on Wednesday night in a statement naming playing trio Steve Woolley, Craig Mitchell and Kyle Jordan as caretaker bosses for Saturday’s game against Belper Town.

The statement read: “With over 400 appearances combined, the club feel the trio are the best suitors to take hold of the playing side until a new first team manager is appointed. We thank the fans during this time and hope you will continue your fantastic support going into the weekend against Belper Town.”

Denton led the reformed club back to the Northern Premier League after five years away last term by masterminding Northern Counties East League Premier Division and NCEL Cup glory.

A 3-1 win at Carlton Town on Saturday turned out to be his final game at the helm before his surprise departure was announced on the club’s website. He leaves with the Tigers in 10th spot after three wins from their first six outings in the BetVictor NPL’s Division One South East.

Denton was also thanked for his efforts at Sandy Lane in an earlier statement announcing his departure. “The club would like to place on record our thanks to him for his contributions for the last 16 months, including our incredible 22 game winning run last season which resulted in a Northern Counties Eastern League League and Cup double and our return to the Northern Premier League after five years,” said the Tigers.
