Gainsborough Trinity apologise for comments made by manager Steve Housham

have apologised for remarks made by manager Steve Housham about local rivals .

Trinity lost 1-0 at Boston on Bank Holiday Monday and Housham was unhappy with comments made by Pilgrims boss Dennis Greene, who claimed Trinity were ‘scared'.

In an interview with BBC Lincolnshire, Housham fired back at Greene's claim but his words have led to his club issuing an apology.

Housham said: “We set up the same as we did at and Shrewsbury and we did well in those games.

“Dennis said we set up as if we were scared. The only thing you're scared about going to Boston is coming out with the same amount of fingers you went in with.

“Dennis calls me what he wants so I'm allowed to say what I like. That's right, isn't it?”

A Trinity statement said: “In light of recent comments made to the media, on this occasion the club wish to make it known that the views expressed are not those of Gainsborough Trinity Club as a whole. And we unreservedly apologise for any offence caused by those comments.

“Despite an understanding that the manager has a right to reply, we feel it only right to draw a line under this matter and move forward.

“We continue to be committed to developing and growing as a fully inclusive, community club; which together we will be able to do.”
