No major changes planned at Boston United says boss Dennis Greene

manager Dennis Greene won't be making any drastic changes to his squad following Sunday's North play-off defeat.

The Pilgrims, who finished fifth in the table, went to United with a 2-0 lead from the semi-final first leg and confident of reaching this weekend's final.

However, an 11th minute penalty given when Carl Piergianni tangled with Tom Denton allowed the Villagers to strike back early though Liam King in the return fixture and they went on to win 3-0 to end Boston's season.

Greene, who has a year left on his contract, felt his side “never got going” and believes referee Andrew Miller had a hand in all three North Ferriby goals.

He said: “We are devastated. The penalty is not a penalty in a month of Sundays. That gives them a kickstart and then the belief.

“The second goal I thought was a foul on the keeper and the third goal Nat Brown is down with a head injury and they score.

“The man in the middle had a part to play in all three goals. Not one decision went our way so it was difficult to take. On the whole they deserved their victory but it was handed to them on plate by the officiating.

“We never got going. Ferriby got in our faces and they have to take credit. They took their chances and we didn't. We never managed to find the final ball.”

Former and boss Greene took over as Boston boss in March 2013 and has led them to the play-offs in the past two seasons.

They will hope to go one step further next term and the manager says there will be no knee-jerk reactions to the defeat in East Yorkshire.

“The group is good enough, we just need to add one or two more to it,” he added. “Most of this group have been with us for two years and we have had two play-off campaigns.

“It would be crazy to get rid of them all. We just need to add one or two more and maybe have a better season with regard to injuries.

“The team that finished the season in the last seven or eight games that was pretty much unchanged could challenge for the top slot; we just never quite had the luck with injuries this season.”
