Boston United played like a “Sunday morning team” in Fylde defeat, says boss Dennis Greene

DENNIS GREENE was “embarrassed” by his side's performance in their 9-2 drubbing at and says it was like watching a “Sunday morning team”.

The Pilgrims went 1-0 up at Mill Farm through Jay Rollins but little did they know that they would be heading for one of the heaviest defeats in the club's history.

Rampant quickly erased the deficit and were 6-1 up at half-time, going on to win the match 9-2 with the North top scorer Danny Rowe claiming four.

Greene's side have now won just one of their last seven league games and have conceded 22 goals during that run.

Boston now sit just three places and four points above the relegation zone and Greene was left shellshocked by his side's lapse defending.

The boss told the club's website: “We can't go through all the goals, there were too many. We've been defending like that for a few weeks now but we had got away with it until we played Brackley and Fylde.

“We got punished for lacklustre defending. They had a desire going forwards and we didn't have the desire to defend. As soon as we lose the ball, the willingness to get back was poor.

“We could have been 3-0 up before they scored, we started really brightly but within five or so minutes we had conceded three goals.

“It was like watching a Sunday morning team. I was embarrassed by the performance and I'm sorry for the fans who have travelled, as you shouldn't have to and see your team beaten 9-2.

“I take full responsibility and we'll work hard to rectify the defending. The second half was better but the damage was already done.”
