WORCESTER CITY could start next season below Step 3 with the cash-strapped club's joint-boss John Snape admitting he doesn't know what level they will play at.
City were relegated from the National League North two weeks ago but rumours had started before the end of the season that the club could ask to go down.
Despite losing their battle against relegation on the pitch, the Blue and Whites may further drop down the Non-League Pyramid.
The club have struggled financially since leaving their St George's Lane home in 2013, groundsharing at Kidderminster Harriers before moving to Bromsgrove Sporting last season.
Snape says the board are looking at the finacial implications of playing in the Southern League Premier or Northern Premier League next term and will make their decision soon.
If City do opt to take a voluntary relegation to Step 4, or below, Harrow Borough of the Ryman Premier could be set for a reprieve as they have the highest points per game total across the Step 3 divisions.
Snape, who will be joint-manager alongside veteran striker Lee Hughes next season, told the Worcester News: “I think there will be developments over the next week. I don't know the level we are going to play at.
“I know we have got a structure in place for several different levels and different scenarios that we have agreed with the board, so we know what we are working with in terms of finances.
“We have also highlighted players from different levels. But it is a little bit unknown for everybody including the board and the fans.
“We need to (get it resolved) as the fixtures are coming out and we want to crack on. The plan is to work within a budget and the players have got to fit to that for the good of the team.”
