Black Cats Pounce For Altrincham Star

starlet Duncan Watmore has secured a move to Premier League club Sunderland.

The 19-year-old was one of Alty's best performers last season, scoring 15 times in 35 starts.

His contribution saw the club's fans vote him as their Player of the Season and he also secured Goal of the Season for the wonderful effort below.

Watmore, a former Manchester United academy player, has now been snapped up by the Black Cats, who have paid an undisclosed fee to secure his services.

His deal at the Stadium of Light runs until June 2015 and he will continue his university degree in Economics and Finance while with the north east outfit.

Speaking about the move, Watmore said: “I am delighted at the opportunity Sunderland have given me and excited by the move.

“They have one of the finest academies in England, and the Sunderland people have been very welcoming and professional throughout.

“I also want to put on record my thanks to Altrincham for giving me my chance and developing me.”

Duncan Watmore AltyClub chairman Grahame Rowley commented: ‘Duncan has progressed extremely well this season courting a lot of attention from numerous league clubs.

“The opportunity for Duncan to play at a Premier League club was too good a chance to pass up and negotiations between the clubs have been concluded satisfactorily on both sides.

“We all wish Duncan every success at Sunderland AFC.”
