Striker Padraig Amond the latest to sign up for Grimsby Town

FORMER Accrington Stanley and Morecambe striker Padraig Amond has become Grimsby's third signing in three days.

The 27-year-old began his career at Irish side Shamrock Rovers before a spell in Portugal with Paços de Ferreira. He then came to England with Accrington and then signed for Morecambe in 2013.

The Irishman has signed a one-year deal with the Mariners and will be tasked with replacing the goals of Lenell John-Lewis who moved to Newport County. He scored 19 times in 50 appearances for the Shrimpers.

Amond's signing follows the arrivals of Richard Tait and Marcus Marshall. Tait, 25, joins the Mariners from Cambridge United.

He said: “I'm absolutely delighted to be at Grimsby. It's a big club and one with a lot of history and traditions that I really respect and I just can't wait to get started.

“I watched the play-off final and I thought Grimsby were very unlucky, but is cruel at times. There's no reason why we can't be the on the right side of that this year.

“I think the experience of going so close last season can only stand us in good stead in making that push to go one step further.”

The third new face at Blundell Park is former Bury and Morecambe winger Marshall, also 25, who spent the majority of last season on loan at Grimsby's rivals Lincoln City.
