MIDFIELDER Franklyn Clarke has made the jump from Step 3 to the after signing a one-year deal with York City.

The 23-year-old, whose deal includes an option for a further 12 months, impressed Minstermen boss Jackie McNamara during a two-week trial period.

Clarke started his career with League Southern Division One South & West club after being spotted playing for University, where he was studying for a sports psychology and coaching degree.

A spell with Blackfield & followed before he later moved to Southern Premier side late last year.

He spent the remainder of last season with the Magpies, helping them to 13th in the league, before impressing at York.

Clarke told the club's website: “I'm absolutely delighted, to sign a professional contract is all I've ever wanted to do. I've been here for the past two weeks and I've loved coming in every day.

“I've just been trying my best and thankfully it's been good enough. I've only played Non-League properly for two years but the gaffer has given me a chance and I'll just keep working hard and trying to impress.”
