FRUSTRATED Woking boss Garry Hill slammed his side after they “melted” in the relegation six-pointer against Maidstone United on Saturday.
The Cards had made the perfect start to the game and led 2-0 after 25 minutes thanks to goals from former Stones loanee Delano Sam-Yorke and Jamie Lucas.
Jamar Loza gave Maidstone hope before half-time and the striker then scored twice after the break to complete his hat-trick. Yemi Odubade's late strike sealed the result and saw the Stones leapfrog Woking into 19th.
The disappointing home defeat has left the Cards just a point above the bottom four and they have won just once in their past five outings.
Hill's side have struggled at the back all season and have the second worst defensive record in the National League after struggling Southport.
The Cards have scored the same amount as third-placed Tranmere Rovers but their inability to keep them out at the other end means they are fighting for their lives.
Woking host Sutton United this Saturday in another massive fixture and Hill knows his side's defending must improve if they have any chance of securing their National League status.
“In the second half the players melted,” Hill said after the Maidstone game. “Couldn't handle it. Couldn't handle the pressure. Melted. We collapsed.
“It's a very, very disappointing afternoon for us. We've given poor goals away in a big, big way.
“You've got to give credit to Maidstone, but our second-half showing wasn't anything like good enough.”
