Hartlepool United add more National League experience with signing of attacker Ryan Donaldson

CRAIG HARRISON has continued to add experience to his new look squad with the signing of attacker Ryan Donaldson.

The 26-year-old started his career at Newcastle United and spent a brief spell on loan with Pools back in 2011 before he made his name in the Conference with and then Cambridge United.

Donaldson scored twice as the U's beat in the FA Tophy final at in 2014 and followed that up with the winner in the Conference play-off final against his former club Gateshead.

After spending two seasons in League Two with Cambridge, Donaldson joined Plymouth Argyle last summer and made 33 appearances as the Pilgrims were promoted to League One.

Donaldson has now returned to his native North East, however, and will be aiming to fire Hartlepool to an instant League return.

The winger, attacking midfielder or striker becomes Harrison's fifth signing of the summer following the additions of forward Jake Cassidy, goalkeeper Scott Loach and midfielders Jack Munns and Luke George.

Pools have also been boosted by the news that defender Carl Magnay has put pen to paper on a new deal at Victoria Park.

The full-back joined Hartlepool in the summer of 2015 from Grimsby and has gone on to make 51 appearances since, fighting back from a bad cruciate ligament injury suffered last September.

The 28-year-old was out of contract at the end of last season, which saw Pools relegated from League Two, but met with new boss Harrison and agreed to stay on.
