Gordon Boateng pleased with Bishop’s Stortford’s pre-season so far

BISHOP'S STORTFORD boss Gordon Boateng is pleased with how the club's pre-season is going after they picked up their first friendly victory on Saturday.

Boateng, who replaced Rod Stringer as boss of the Blues at the end of May, has been moulding his squad for the new season and has been impressed with what he has seen so far.

Stortford kicked off their pre-season with a 1-1 draw against before a heavy 6-0 defeat to League Two side Stevenage.

Tuesday night brought Boateng's side their first win as they beat 3-2 and he is taking the positives from all three games.

“I am happy we have now started our pre-season friendly campaign,” he told the club's website. “On reflection the Stevenage game was actually a great first game for us to have, as it showed us where we are currently match fitness and sharpness wise.

“t was a massive learning curve. We could've arranged an easier test, but why not get thrown in at the deep end? How do you learn otherwise?

“The game against Great Wakering Rovers was a good test and perfect for our mentality when you play against lower division sides who are hungry, hard working and play some good .

“We treat everyone with respect and the pleasing thing was even when we were 2-1 down, we were able not to panic, stay focused and continue to play our football the right way, being patient and continue creating chances.

“Then we took advantage, got level and then raised the level again to get the winner and that will stand us in good stead for the future.

“It is still early days and we are rebuilding, so we have lot still to do but we will get there. I ask our fans to continue to get behind us as we are a new team and whenever you put a new team together it takes time to gel.”
