Cup Could Be Priceless For Macc

CASH-STRAPPED Macclesfield enjoyed another famous afternoon after they claimed what could be a priceless replay against Championship giants Wednesday.

Steve Williams' second-half volley levelled the score for Macc and ensured their name was in the hat for yesterday's fourth round draw. If they can overcome the Owls, they will travel to Rochdale.

The Silkmen's financial troubles have been well documented and the potential £67,500 prize money would be a huge boost to the club.

But even if they don't claim a fourth round berth, the income from the gate receipts at Hillsborough could go some way to easing the club's concerns after they nearly went under in the summer.

Boss John Askey said: “In the circumstances, this is probably the biggest achievement of my time here.

“We were dead and buried. I can't believe we've been able to survive as long as we have and there could be some light at the end of the tunnel now.”
