The FA Cup Player Of The Third Round

TWO heroes have been nominated for the Player of the Third Round prize but surprisingly the no one from Mansfield Town made the shortlist.

The Stags can count themselves very unfortunately not to be in the hat for the Fourth Round after Luis Suarez's arm-assisted strike saw them beaten 2-1 by Liverpool.

Despite their fantastic Field Mill show, none of their squad made the five-man shortlist for the Player of the Round.

However, flying the flag for the Non-League are match-winners Matthew Barnes-Homer and Alex Lawless.

Macclesfield frontman Barnes-Homer scored twice in the final 10 minutes against Championship leaders Cardiff City to complete a remarkable turnaround and give the Silkmen a 2-1 victory.

His brace sets up a Fourth Round tie at home to either AFC or Wigan, who replay next Tuesday, January 15.

Midfielder Lawless netted a cracking volley for Luton Town in their 1-0 win over another Championship side, Wolverhampton Wanderers.

The Hatters travel to Premier League outfit Norwich City in the Fourth Round.

Two of the other three nominees – Andrea Orlandi and Liam Bridcutt – came from Brighton & Hove Albion.

The Seagulls saw off Premier League strugglers Newcastle United 2-0 on Saturday lunchtime, with Orlandi opening the scoring with a finish oozing class and finesse, while Bridcutt bossed the midfield throughout.

The final nominee is 's Danny Hylton.

Hylton scored a hat-trick to give his side a 3-1 success over Rotherham but his afternoon was soured when he sent off five minutes from time.

Let's get behind the Non-League lads and ensure the winner comes from the Grassroots game!
