Matthew Barnes-Homer predicting positive season for Aldershot Town

MATTHEW BARNES-HOMER says listening to new boss Barry Smith's plans convinced him to sign for Aldershot – as Brett Williams announced his Shots departure.

The 29-year-old striker has re-joined the Hampshire club where he had a short spell more than ten years ago.

Barnes-Homer, who scored nine times for Macclesfield last season, is excited by the new challenge.

“When I met the manager it was exciting,” he said. “He's an experienced manager in the SPL and he wants his team to play .

“He's got some good players there already, has made some good signings and the players he still wants to bring in have been there and done it. They know about the league and what it takes. That's what you need.

“Last season we had a fantastic season at Macc. To miss out on the play-offs was disappointing but I enjoyed my time there. We had a great set of lads and the fans were good to me. I wish them all the best.

“And that's why it was important to me to go to a team that has the same belief we had at Macc. I really believe we can achieve at Aldershot.”

Meanwhile, striker Williams is on his way out of the club to pursue offers from Football League clubs.
