Chris Todd Joins Hereford United On Loan As Ashley Sammons Departs

UNITED have released non-contract midfielder Ashley Sammons.

The 20-year-old, who has previously represented the England Under-17 side, joined the Bulls this summer after leaving Championship side Birmingham City.

He went on to make five starts and three substitute appearances for the the Blue Square Bet Premier club and contributed an important goal in a 2-1 success over in September.

However, Bulls boss Martin Foyle says competition for midfield places and wanting to bring in a new face on a tight budget have led to him letting Sammons go.

Speaking to the club's website, Foyle said: “To enable us to bring in a player we've had to let Ashley go.

“We gave Ashley the chance to try and win a contract, but with other midfielders stepping up their game lately we've had to let him go.

“He did OK for us, but times are hard financially across at the moment and we've got to make some very tough decisions.

“We wish Ashley all the best for the future and I'd like to thank him for his efforts in the short time he's been with us.”

Foyle has used the money freed up by releasing Sammons to bring in Forest Green Rovers defender Chris Todd on loan for a month.

Experienced centre-back Todd, 31, has been on the peripheries at the New Lawn so far this term but Foyle feels he can have a big impact at Edgar .

“We've been conceding too many goals lately so I've bought in an experienced centre-back who is a leader on the pitch,” he told the Hereford United official website.

“He's very vocal and will hopefully help get us more organised.”
